Thoughts

The Old Man Grandad’s death is the first i’ve known and I haven’t known how to react No tears have fallen as of yet though mum’s have made up for my lack He loved The Lakes and trains but I saw the aches and pains One Christmas I got him a Santa coat and hat He had a twinkle in his eye for longer than I would Held on to his life for longer than I could He was horribly clever and constantly proved it Precise, Concise and True The last times I saw him were his birthday and deathday So how can there still be things left unsaid to say? i never saw him run i never saw him climb i never saw him swim i simply wasn’t there in time Though I’ve photographic evidence it all just seems a pretence, for all I’ve ever known and loved is The Old Man

Sad news indeed. I met Mike when I first joined the Tyneside Committee when he was editor of the City and County magazine. He was a lovely man and if I remember correctly, his daughter Allison also became involved with the Society with various excellent proposals to help us modernise and increase membership. I think that she did some design work for City and County. Many members will have fond memories of Mike.

Please let me start by expressing my sincere condolences for the passing of your Father, Dr Michael Pearce, who sounded a very special man and committed educator. I'm just sad that I never had the opportunity to meet him, although we have a very long serving member of staff here, who I am sure will remember him fondly and have some precious memories of him to impart. If you are happy for me to, I can forward this on to her. I very much enjoyed reading his life story and his passion for education was clear. I'm struck by his love of the outdoors and physical pursuits which I'm sure he would have passed on to the many pupils at Benfield who were fortunate enough to know him and be in his care. The Lake District therefore seems a perfect place for him. Thank you for sharing this with me and i wish you and your families all the very best. Anthony Martin Head Teacher
